Bâtard named America’s best new restaurant
The James Beard Awards, America’s most prestigious food industry awards, were held outside New York for the first time on Monday night, but it was still Manhattan’s own that took the top spot. Bâtard, the Tribeca restaurant owned by Drew Nieporent and chef Markus Glocker, was named the best new restaurant in the United States. New York restaurants also took home gold for outstanding chef (Michael Anthony of Gramercy Tavern), outstanding baker (Jim Lahey of Sullivan Street Bakery) and best pastry chef (Christina Tosi of Momofuku Milk Bar).
Chicago took home a trove of medals too, including best bar program (The Violet Hour) and outstanding restaurateur (Donnie Madia).
