Bardarbunga lava flow would fill 740 Empire State Buildings

Iceland’s  Bardarbunga volcanic system is still erupting - and is set to produce the biggest lava flow the country has seen in over two centuries. The lava, which is emerging from Holuhraun volcano, would fill 740 Empire State Buildings. Scientists had thought the eruption was flowing from a shallow magma chamber but a larger, deeper reservoir beneath the surface is now believed to be responsible. Read more: ice
