Barcelona is ground zero for tourist phone crime
Mobile phone chiefs have revealed that Barcelona is the epicentre of mobile phone crime in Spain, partly fuelled by the city’s popularity with tourists.
Criminal gangs are thought to be making millions by swiping tourists’ phones and then racking up huge phone bills calling premium rate numbers before tourists have had a chance to call their phone company and report the theft. Last year one Welsh tourist was landed with a €20,000 bill from calls that were made within hours of his phone being stolen. Read more: elpais.com
