Bangladesh braced for damage as Cyclone Komen circles off the coast

Residents of coastal areas in southern Bangladesh are preparing for the arrival of the latest cyclone to batter the eastern Indian Ocean.

Cyclone Komen is due to make landfall today, and one hundred homes have already been destroyed by high winds, with four fatalities and six missing persons reported in Cox’s Bazaar near Chittagong. Nevertheless, the Bangladesh meteorological office has announced that the storm is moderate and may weaken once it hits land. All water transport in the area has been suspended as a precaution.
