At least two Bangkok cinemas have cancelled screenings of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I after a female student was escorted from a screening on Thursday for flashing the three-finger salute from the film that has become the unofficial symbol of resistance against Thai military rule. Two other students, one carrying a copy of the now-banned anti-authoritarian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, were also detained outside a nearby cinema. Five additional students held briefly in the nation’s northeast on Wednesday for flashing the three-finger gesture during a public prime ministerial address have now been released. Read more:
