Bakers create record-breaking cake sculpture at Milan Trade Fair
Three hundred bakers and cake designers from Italy’s National Association of Cake Designers broke the world record for the largest cake sculpture at the Milan Trade Fair this weekend.
The cake had a 16.46-metre-long by 13.94-metre-wide sponge-cake base, topped by an icing sugar map of Italy, and decorated with intricate icing sculptures of major landmarks such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa. In total it had a surface area of 244 square metres and weighed more than a tonne. Once the new world record was confirmed, the cake was cut into 12,000 slices and devoured by Trade fair attendees.
