Baby dolphin dies after being paraded around Argentine beach resort for photographs
The Vida Silvestre Wildlife Foundation has issued a statement warning beachgoers to immediately return sea mammals to the water if they come too close to shore.
The statement comes after the death of a baby La Plata dolphin, which was carried onto a beach at a resort in Santa Teresita, Argentina and paraded around like a trophy in the hot sun as people pushed their way forward to stroke the creature and take selfies with it. La Plata dolphins - also known as Franciscana dolphins - cannot remain outside of the water for very long as their thick, fatty skin which regulates their body temperature dehydrates quickly, leading to death.
