Australian apologises over Hindu tattoo in Bangalore

An Australian tourist has been forced to apologise to outraged Hindus in Bangalore over a ‘disrespectful’ tattoo of the Hindu goddess Yellamma (Renuka).

Matt Keith Gordon from Melbourne was marched to a police station by an angry mob and forced to write a letter of apology, both for the tattoo, and for his ‘inappropriate language’ when confronted. Commentators have seized on the story as yet more evidence of growing hardline attitudes to religion in the world’s second most populous country. Read more:
