Austin police clamp down on drunk driving at SXSW festival

The Austin police made 45 arrests for drunk driving during the final weekend of the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, putting its initiative of ‘No Refusal’ in to effect. The ‘No Refusal’ initiative means police have the power to enforce a blood test if a driver refuses an initial breathalyser test. Austin police have been cracking down on drunk driving after last year’s festival when four people died and many more injured when a driver who was over the limit for alcohol consumption crashed into a crowd of festivalgoers.
