Art Basel gets underway in Hong Kong featuring works from galleries around the world
The annual Art Basel festival gets underway in Hong Kong on Thursday with galleries and artists from 35 countries displaying their works.
Art Basel in Hong Kong is now in its fourth year and was borne from the festival of the same name that started in Switzerland. The festival is held at Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre in Wan Chai and this year features works from 239 galleries from all over the world. Highlights of the 2016 edition include Hauser & Wirth’s Spider Couple by American artist Louise Bourgeois, Martin Wong’s Clones of Bruce Lee, as well as a few more avant garde works, such as a series of embroidered chandeliers created by South Korean artist Ham Kyungah and paintings by Chinese artists Zhang Xiaogang, whose works are largely influenced by family portraits taken during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976). Art Basel in Hong Kong runs from 24-26 March.
