Anger as Air New Zealand announces regional route closures

Air New Zealand's decision to reduce flights to several regional centres has been met with anger from townships affected by the cuts, particularly Whakatane, Kaitaia and Westport where Air New Zealand are cutting services altogether. Buller District's population of just 10,000 forked out $1.2 million for their new airport building for flights to Wellington with Air New Zealand and the regional airport in Westport has only recently been refurbished, adding further to the outrage felt by air commuters.
