American tourist survives shark attack in Bahamas
A tourist from Texas is in recovery after suffering a life-threatening bite from a large shark, thought to be a 10ft tiger shark. Lacy Webb Martin was swimming off Elbow Cay in the Bahamas when the shark attacked, taking a large chunk out of her midriff. She was flown by emergency airlift to a hospital in South Florida for surgery, where doctors pulled a shark tooth from the wound. One doctor said the size of the bite suggested a shark so big that it could have swallowed her whole. The victim, who is now stable but still faces additional operations, said she intends to make a necklace with the tooth as a reminder of her brush with death.
