These incredible Airbnbs are perfect for watching the lunar eclipse
More and more travellers are seeking out spots where they can get the best glimpse of the stars, and with the longest lunar eclipse of the century happening this month, it may be time to start seeking out the best accommodation for staring at the sky.
More travellers are planning trips linked to astronomical events, according to Airbnb. During last year’s “Great American Eclipse”, the home rental platform says more than 50,000 guests from 26 countries travelled to join the crowds witnessing the incredible event. Overall, more travellers are heading to destinations known for stargazing and more than 3000 homes on the platform offer telescopes.
There are certain destinations that have seen a boom in travellers close to stargazing areas certified by Fundación Starlight, or regions with dark skies identified by Fundación Starlight. Those include Antofagasta, a Chilean city next to the Atacama desert, which is famously one of the best places in the world to see the stars. It has seen a 327% growth in visitors year-on-year. Other trending stargazing destinations include La Palma in the Canary Islands, which is home to the Gran Telescopio Canarias (90%), and Yarmouth, Canada (221%), which is near to the Acadian Skies and Mi'kmaq Lands Region.
