Airbnb owners run the risk of heavy fines if they are found to be hosting Moroccan couples who aren’t married.
Moroccans can be jailed for having sexual relations outside of marriage and many are booking into Airbnb properties under foreign names to avoid being caught. Some riads in Marrakech have reportedly been stormed by police during the night after tip-offs that unmarried couples are staying there. The law does not apply to foreign visitors.
