Get inspired by the best drone images from around Australia
Floating in a natural spa pool in Australia sounds like a dream-vacation come true, but if you can’t make it there in person then it’s time to admire the winning photographs in the Australia From Above drone photography contest.
The contest, run by the online aerial photography community SkyPixel and sponsored by Tourism Australia and drone manufacturer DJI, brought together more than 6500 images that give a glimpse of the land down under from above.
The winner of the competition was Kyle Bowman – who uses the name Airloft on SkyPixel – with an image that shows person floating in Wyadup Spa in Western Australia. Wyadup Spa is located in Australia’s Margaret River region and is known as a natural spa area that is popular with locals.
As the grand prize winner, Bowman will receive a DJI Inspire 2 Premium Combo drone package and a chance to try out the new gear on a three-day journey to Lord Howe Island and a three-day journey to Kangaroo Island for two.
In second place was a photograph from Al Edgar, which shows a surfer riding a wave in a vivid shade of green in Secret Harbour, Western Australia. The third place image shows the landscapes of Rigby Island in Lakes Entrance in Victoria by Peter Yan.
The contest was open to both amateur and professional photographers who shoot aerial images. Lisa Ronson, Tourism Australia’s chief marketing officer and one of the competition judges, said in a statement she’d been blown away by the quantity and the quality of entries.
“There are some amazingly talented photographers out there who are using drone technology to capture some breath-taking images of Australia”.
