A grey seal has been spotted swimming far up the Thames river.

The seal was seen by lifeboat crew member Andy Butterfield on Saturday while working a shift for Teddington RNLI, the Evening Standard reports.

He kept track of the seal's whereabouts and posted images of the young animal online. Mr Butterfield said that the "adorable" seal went over the weir, near Teddington Lock, Surrey, “chasing fish”.

“Seals tend to come and go from time to time,” he tweeted.

“It is quite far upstream but can get back when ready.”
