The lovably knobbly cabildo is famous for its clocktower, where a life-size figure of San Francisco Solano emerges at noon to deliver a benediction. Be sure to arrive early; the clock is erratic.
Spectacularly lit up at night, Tucumán’s most imposing landmark is the Casa de Gobierno, which replaced the colonial cabildo on Plaza Independencia in 1912.
This imposingly elegant government building was completed in 1921.
Peach-colored and guarded by two palm-tree sentinels, this attractive building on the plaza is the seat of La Rioja government.
