Welcome to Reserva Natural Villavicencio
If you’ve ordered mineral water from any restaurant or cafe in Argentina, odds are you’ve ended up with a bottle of Villavicencio on your table. The springs in the Reserva Natural Villavicencio are the source. This spectacular mountain setting only 60km north of Mendoza once hosted the prestigious thermal baths resort of the Gran Hotel de Villavicencio frequented by wealthy Argentinians from the time it was built in 1945 until its doors were shuttered in 1979. You can wander the hotel grounds and garden and do some short hikes, where you might spot a fox, lama, condor or puma. Most people visit the reserve on a day tour from Mendoza. There are some historic sites, petroglyphs and viewpoints – the highest is Mirador Aconcagua (3100m). The hair-raising winding turns leading to Villavicencio make the journey an attraction in itself.
