Air

Though Puerto Madryn has its own modern airport, Aeropuerto El Tehuelche, 5km west of town, most commercial flights still arrive in Trelew's Airport Almirante Marcos A Zar, 65km south.

Regional airline Andes has flights to Buenos Aires’ Aeroparque (AR$1800) several times a week. Aerolíneas Argentinas and LADE fly from Trelew, but each has a ticketing representative here.

Starting in 2018, Alas del Sur (www.alasdelsurla.com) will have regional flights. For other new regional flight services, check out the website of Aviación Civil Argentina (ANAC; www.anac.gob.ar), which has a map with new routes and airlines.

Bus

Puerto Madryn’s full-service bus terminal, behind the historic 1889 Estación del Ferrocarril Patagónico, has an ATM, a cafe and a helpful tourist information desk. Bus timetables are clearly posted and luggage storage is available.

Bus companies include Andesmar, Don Otto, Mar y Valle, Que Bus, Via TAC and TUS. Chaltén Travel has buses to Esquel and offers connecting service north on RN 40 (to Bariloche) or south (to Perito Moreno and El Chaltén).

The bus to Puerto Pirámides, operated by Mar y Valle (AR$114, 1½ hours), leaves at 9:45am and 5pm, returning to Madryn at 11am and 6pm. Monday through Friday there are 6:30am and 4pm departures. Times may change seasonally, so consult ahead.
