Also known as the Portal Norte, this is the most accessible point to get into the wetlands – it's just 30km off the paved Ruta Nacional 12 that runs up to Iguazú Falls close to the pleasant vacation town of Ituzaingó. Unlike other entry points it has no navigable waterways but it is one of the best areas in the park for bird watching; the wetlands here are absolutely teeming with caimans and fish.

The visitors center at Hacienda Monte Rey has a short trail through a small section of forest that is home to howler monkeys and reintroduced scarlet macaws. Another longer trail is in the pipeline.

Ituzaingó has over 12km of inviting river beaches and a laid-back atmosphere, and is a good base to spend a couple of days.
