Collon Cura is probably the most important birding hotspot in Patagonia for the great amount species that can be found. An aquatic environment surrounded by the steppe and with the presence of many species from the pampas.
ItineraryThis is a typical itinerary for this productStop At: Junin De Los AndesWe will leave San Martin early in the morning by Route 40 to Junin de los Andes, doing several stops along the way looking for Patagonian steppe endemics and several raptors like black-chested buzzard eagle, red-backed hawk and southern crested caracara. Duration: 1 hourStop At: Puente La RinconadaAfter passing by Junin de los Andes we will continue to La Rinconada, stopping on the lagoons on the side of the road and on a viewpoint where we will look for Andean condors. Duration: 2 hoursStop At: Salida de PescaAfter crossing Collon Cura River we will follow its course with several stops to see upland geese, Chilean flamingo, two-banded plover, coscoroba swan and several species of ducks and coots. On the reeds we will look for the many-colored rush-tyrant, wren-like rushbird and yellow-winged blackbird. After a picnic by the river we will take a dirt road that goes through the steppe. There we can see guanacos, lesser rheas and several earthcreepers and canasteros. Duration: 4 hours
