Bus

Bariloche’s bus terminal and train station are east of town across the Río Ñireco on RN 237. During high season it’s wise to buy tickets at least a day in advance.

The principal route to Chile is over the Cardenal A Samoré (Puyehue) pass to Osorno (AR$600 to AR$720, 5¼ hours) and Puerto Montt (AR$600 to AR$720, eight hours), which has onward connections to northern and southern Chilean destinations. Companies such as Andesmar make the run.

To San Martín de los Andes and Junín de los Andes, Albus, Transportes Ko-Ko and Turismo Algarrobal take the scenic (though possibly chokingly dusty) Ruta de los Siete Lagos (RN 40) during summer, and the longer, paved La Rinconada route (RN 237) during the rest of the year.

During the peak months of December to February, Chaltén Travel runs buses along the legendary RN 40 as far south as El Calafate. There are a couple of weekly departures from Bariloche.
