Pick up your vehicle at Keflavik International Airport after arrival and begin your adventure. Start time is flexible and can be arranged to your flight arrival time.
You will drive through the charred and blackened lava fields of the Reykjanes Peninsula and will be left in no doubt as to why it was used to train American astronauts before the moon landing. Iceland is not only foreign, it is otherworldly.The first stop will bring you to the Blue Lagoon. The warm azure water is renowned for its healing properties, as is the natural silica mud you can use as a revitalising face mask. The Blue Lagoon invigorates both your body and mind, preparing you for your road trip adventure.After you are revitalised, you'll then make your way to the northernmost capital in the world: Reykjavik! Spend the rest of the day exploring Reykjavík and settle into your hotel room in the centre of town. You'll find plenty of interesting places to see, such as the Hallgrímskirkja church, Laugavegur and Skólavörðustígur shopping streets.There are plenty of designer boutiques, quirky cafés, world-class restaurants, the Old Harbour, the Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Center, and Reykjavík's pond by the city council building, just to name a few of the places you can explore.Have a good night rest tonight and prepare for an exciting day tomorrow.After breakfast in hotel, you will head off to the Golden Circle. The Golden Circle is Iceland’s most popular tourist attraction. It includes Þingvellir National Park, Geysir and Gullfoss.The first stop is Þingvellir National Park. The geothermal valley of Haukadalur is the next stop, where you can see the geysers Strokkur and Geysir, amongst many bubbling hot springs. Strokkur puts on an unforgettable display every 10 minutes or so, erupting to heights that exceed 20 m (66 ft). Just a few kilometres away is Iceland's most popular attraction, the mighty waterfall of Gullfoss. Another popular sight of the area is the volcanic crater Kerið, which is well worth a visit before continuing to the South Coast. The rocks of this crater are coloured rusty red and fiery orange, and the water that permanently sits within its basin is an incredible, vivid blue. The colour contrast, especially when you add green-growing moss, is simply stunning.After an awesome day, head back to Reykjavik for a good rest.After breakfast in hotel, you will head to Grindavik. The area around Grindavik is much less touristy but definitely not less spectacular. Visit the boiling mud pools in a geothermal area where the landscape is very much like that of the moon. Witness the power of nature as the waves of the Atlantic ocean crash onto the lava rocks by the beach.Head for the airport to return your vehicle before your flight back home.
