Weather within the national park can vary hugely between the coastal and hill areas - and micro climates exist. One of the few constants is rain - this is one of Britain's wettest areas and Blaenau Ffestiniog records the second-highest annual rainfall of British towns.
The hilly areas take most of the drenching - it's drier and milder along the coast, partly due to the fohn effect, which dries and warms moist air as it blows across Snowdonia.
The hills and mountains are generally colder and the weather can turn quickly. The mountains experience an average of 40 days of snowfall each year and fogs can be a hazard.
