The best time to visit Mérida is between November to June, although the true dry season is December to April. August to October are the wettest months - hiking can be miserable during this period. The snowy months - June to October - may be dangerous for mountaineers.

It's well worth being in Mérida for one of the big festivals, and there's none bigger than Feria del Sol, held over the week before Ash Wednesday. The Andean villages around Mérida also host a string of fiestas.

Weather

Unlike the rest of Venezuela, Mérida maintains a pretty cool climate - the weather is best from October to June. As a general guide, the Venezuelan Andes enjoys a dry season from December to April. May to June is a period of changeable weather, with a lot of sunshine but also frequent rain (or snow at high altitudes). This is usually followed by a short, relatively dry period from late June to late July before the long, really wet season begins. The months from August to October are the wettest - hiking can be miserable during this time. The snowy months are between June and October.
