Davos first achieved fame as a health resort for tuberculosis sufferers because of its high altitude and long hours of sunshine. The winter air is cold but when the sun shines in clear skies it feels remarkably warm. Davos experiences, on average, most sunny days in the winter and autumn, with more chance of rain during summer. In the Alpine valleys in winter you can expect cloud, fog and frost. On the mountains, however, it can be relatively sunny and even warm. In summer, you will probably find the reverse: more pleasant conditions in the valleys and cloud on the mountains. Davos claims to be fog-free all year round.
Becasue Davos actas as a divider between central Europe and Mediterranean climates there are winds on the Alps, including the warm dry föhn wind, which can raise temperatures by 15-20°C (59-68°F) in an hour.
