Living expenses are reasonable in Suriname but costs go through the roof if you take a guided tour of the interior. A night in a hammock costs from US$3.00 per night, while decent rooms start at around US$20.00 for a double. A budget restaurant meal can be had for US$4.00 . Budget travelers can get by on around US$25.00 per day, while those looking for more comfort should expect to spend closer to US$50.00 per day.

Money Preferred Form

Credit cards are accepted at major hotels and at travel agencies. American Express is more common than either MasterCard or Visa. Only Royal Bank of Trinidad & Tobago (RBTT) ATMs accept foreign cards.

US dollars and euros are the most common foreign currency in Suriname, but other major currencies are accepted at banks.
