A Top Day in Seville

I kick off the day with a coffee and croissant, enjoyed while standing at the traditional bar of the busy Confiterìa La Campana. From here, it's a short walk to the utterly wonderful Museo de Bellas Artes, where I sit for an hour or so quietly contemplating Murillo's wonderful La Virgen de la Servilleta .

Culture out of the way, it's time to do a little shopping in the boutiques along Calle Tetuán or, if I've got some big dollars to blow, at the designer shops on ritzy Plaza Nueva. I then gloat over my new purchases while sampling the nouvelle tapas and excellent house wine at stylish La Alacena de San Eloy. That's a lot to achieve in half a day, so I return to my hotel for an afternoon siesta before meeting up with friends to hit the outdoor bodegas in Plaza Salvador for a drink or two (or three).

Dinner's next - in winter I usually head towards Al Medina for an aromatic couscous dish, but in summer a table in the courtyard at Corral del Agua is my choice every time.

To round off my great day, I stroll past the magnificent cathedral on my way home, all the while inhaling the scent of orange blossom and thinking about how truly seductive this city's embrace can be.
