The Shetland Islands are all about relaxing and letting the stress melt away, but a lot can be packed into a day. I spend the morning around Lerwick - checking out the Up-Helly-Aa Exhibition which shows off the local custom of spending a year building a galley only to burn it in a magnificent spectacle in January. Then I wander out to the Böd of Gremista Museum or take in the view from Fort Charlotte, which can sometimes be a good spot to see seals playing in the bay. Soon enough, lunch at Monty's Bistro beckons - the grub is some of the best on the island. In the afternoon I head out to the Isle of Noss, known for its spectacular bird-watching. If I get back to town quickly I drive up to Eshaness Cliffs for some great scenery. Then, if it's still light, I skip over on the ferries to Yell and then Unst and walk up to Hermaness, where the puffins are particularly friendly. I break the trip back to Lerwick by stopping in Busta House to sink a brew from Valhalla Brewery. Then I grab some fish and chips and stroll along the pier before heading to the Grand Hotel, where I'll either shake my money maker in Posers or enjoy a quiet drink in the bar.
