There is no doubt that weather in the Orkneys tends toward cold - even in summer it's advisable to keep a raincoat close by as weather patterns can change quickly. May to September are the warmer months, averaging above single digits celcius. November to April can be brutally cold due to high wind speed, but when the clouds clear up the Orkneys deliver a magic clarity found in few other places on earth.
