On my perfect day in Toruń, I'd start off with breakfast at the Bar Mleczny Pod Arkadami, an old-style 'milk bar' that serves up classic Polish dishes at absurdly cheap prices. Then I'd wander around the Old Town Square, with impressive Gothic structures and a fountain celebrating the legend of a fiddler who saved the town from a plague of frogs. Toruń is full of museums, so a visit to one of them would be good - perhaps the House Under the Star, a richly decorated building housing an interesting collection of Asian swords, statues and pottery. Then I'd have a beer and a bite of lunch at one of the picturesque beer gardens lining the square. In the afternoon I'd stroll down to the banks of the mighty Vistula River, to take in the old medieval city walls and their remaining towers and gates, before going on a cruise aboard a pleasure boat. Back on shore, it'd be time to try my hand in making my own gingerbread at the Gingerbread Museum on ul Rabian'ska, and learn about the history of Toruń's famous sweet foodstuff. I'd have dinner at Gospoda Pod Modrym Fartuchem, an old atmospheric restaurant in the New Town. To finish up, either a classical music concert at Dwór Artusa, or a bit of dance floor action at the Art Café nightclub, depending on mood.
