If there's one place in Peru where you don't need to worry about weather, Trujillo is it. Temperatures are generally moderate, with slightly warmer conditions from December through March, and rainfall is basically nil.
It's worth timing your Trujillo holiday with a festival or two. Semana Santa (Holy Week) is celebrated over the week before Easter Sunday with spectacular religious processions; and Fiestas Patrias (National Independence Days) are celebrated nationwide on July 28 and 29. Local festivals include Fiesta de la Marinera, the national marinera (seafaring) contest, which is held over the last week in January; and El Festival Internacional de la Primavera (International Spring Festival), which is celebrated in the last week of September with parades, dancing competitions (including, of course, the marinera ), caballos de paso (horsemanship) displays and beauty contests. The city's better hotels are booked out well in advance around this time.
Along the arid coastal strip, the hot months are technically from December through March. Trujillo sees rain rarely, if at all. Daytime temperatures average a pleasant 22°C (72°F) and the mercury drops to around 17°C (63°F) in the evening. The perfect climate for sightseeing, really.
