Being just a stone's throw from Cuzco, Peruvian festivals naturally trickle down the Inca Trail. Celebrations are generally based around the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar, and it's worth timing your trip to coincide with some of the biggies. Semana Santa (Holy Week) is the last week of Lent; Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun), on June 24, is the greatest of the Inca festivals and is particularly relevant in these parts; and the Fiestas Patrias (National Independence Days), held on July 28 and 29, are celebrated with gusto in every corner of Peru.
