Two of the most heartily celebrated festivals in Cuzco include Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun) on June 24 and the Fiestas Patrias (National Independence Days) on July 28 and 29, which combine to form the biggest national holiday. On major holidays, banks, offices and businesses close, hotel rates can triple and transport is generally crowded, so reservations are advised.

If an official public holiday falls on a weekend, offices close on the following Monday. If an official holiday falls mid-week, it is often moved to the nearest Monday to create a long weekend. Major holidays may be celebrated for days around the official date.
