Most of Cancún's pleasures are watery ones. There's great diving and snorkeling just a boat-ride away, and OK snorkeling from the beaches. You can also rent kayaks, boogie boards, inflatables and water skis for surface-level entertainment.
Hotels, agents and tour operators can book you on day-cruise boats bound for snorkeling and diving spots at the barrier reef 100km (62mi)away. If the sparser aquatic life off Cancún's beaches will do, you can rent snorkeling equipment from most luxury hotels.
Deep-sea fishing excursions can also be booked through agents or hotels, or you can negotiate a deal with a fishing-boat captain at the Puerto Juárez ferry dock.
