The Cape Region is a top place for game fishing, which is best from July to October. Diving and snorkeling around Los Cabos may yield encounters with an entire aquarium's worth of marine life. There's horseback riding and cycling, not mention plenty of beach action.
Competition among the sportfishing charters is fierce, but quality varies. Always ask what's included in a boat charter. If you don't have your own boat and rig, plenty of tour companies offer day-long tours, or you can hire a panga (skiff) to net the smaller fish. Most rates for eight-hour trips include fishing licenses and permits, tackle, crew and ice. Sometimes they also include beer and soda, cleaning and freezing, and tax. Live bait is usually available at the docks, but good charters will take care of that for you.
Marlin numbers are protected by the Cape region's 'catch and release' policy - you have to throw back every billfish caught after the first. You won't have fought the fish for nothing, however, as the Billfish Foundation awards Release Certificates to anglers.
With its string of signature championship golf courses, the Los Cabos Corridor (between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo) has become one of the world's premier golfing destinations.
Some of the finest diving and snorkeling sites are just a five-minute boat ride away from the marina in Cabo San Lucas. Dive shops cluster near the Plaza Las Glorias docks and on Playa Médano. Rates usually include tanks and weights.
Beginners can test the waters at Roca Pelícano (Pelican Rock), where there's plenty of tropical fish schooling, and Land's End, where you can get cosy with sea lions. More advanced divers jump in the deep end at Sands Falls, which was once the subject of a Jacques Cousteau documentary, or at Neptune's Finger, known for its amazing canyon-wall dive.
For water sports and fun, head to Playa Médano, where you'll find rentals for just about every sort of beach activity and watersport imaginable.
