The surrounding mountains are Turin's biggest playground, where Turinese dash at weekends to walk, ski, climb, mountain bike and mush. However, with 40km (25mi) of bike paths in the city itself, there's no need to leave the cafe belt.
Cycling is a popular pastime in Turin. Before donning your helmet and pedalling off, ask at a tourist office for the excellent Carta dei percorsi ciclabili di Torino , which maps all of the city's 40km (25mi) of cycle paths. Turin's local cycle club Bici & Dintorni (tel: 011 88 89 91; www.biciedintorni.org, in Italian; Via Andorno 35b) organises group rides ranging from family outings of 20km (12mi) to serious marathons of up to 250km (9155mi).
Bikes are available for hire from the Parco Valentino (Viale Ceppi), Parco della Colletta (Via Carcano) and out of town at the Parco della Mandria (tel: 011 499 33 33; Corso Vittorio Emanuele II 256, Venaria).
'La Vecchia Signora' (The Grand Old Lady) is the nickname given to Juventus (tel: 011 6 56 31; www.juventus.it; Corso Galileo Ferraris 32), the more successful of the city's two football teams. City rival Torino (tel: 011 571 22 11; www.toro.it, in Italian; Via del Carmine 29) attracts fervent support from the Turinese, but can't compete with the riches that continued success and ownership by the Agnelli dynasty bring to Juve.
The spectacular Stadio delle Alpi (tel: 011 966 59 93; Strada Altessano 131) is in the city's outer reaches. To get to the stadium, take bus 12, 62, 72, 75, or on match days, 9b. Tickets for matches can be found at Ricordi Media Store and various tobacconists in the city.
