Eger: Getting there & around

Getting There

Bus services are good, with buses every 30 to 40 minutes to Gyöngyös (usually via Kerecsend; 1hr), Mező-kövesd, Szilvásvárad and Bélapátfalva. Other destinations include: Aggtelek (2.5hr), Budapest (2.5hr), Kecskemét (4.5hr), Debrecen (2.5hr), Miskolc (1.5hr) and Szeged (6hr) via Csongrád. Remember that the bus to Miskolc only goes through the Bükk via Felsőtárkány on Sunday at and mid-April to mid-October.

Eger is on a minor railway linking Putnok and Füzesabony; you usually have to change at the latter for Budapest, Miskolc or Debrecen. There are up to seven direct trains a day to and from Budapest's Keleti station (2.5hr) that do not require a change.
