On Utila, the rainy season is later than in other parts of Honduras, around September to December, with nortes (northerners - cool storms from the north) possible into February. Hurricanes are most likely from September to October, though they rarely hit directly. That said, a far-off hurricane can cause heavy rain, flooding or even minor mudslides. Travel is easier during the dry season, especially if you're keen on scuba diving; February and March are good months to visit because the weather is fairly stable.

Weather

Forget your woollies, you won't need 'em. But you will need sunscreen, flip-flops and beachwear. The hottest time of the year in Utila is from May to September, when temperatures hover around 32°C (90°F); the rest of the year they dip just below 30°C (86°F). You may also want to bring some wet-weather gear: although the rainy season is traditionally from September to January, there's a chance of severe storms any time of the year. Hurricane season is from August to November; direct hits are uncommon, but are devastating when they occur. Travelers should take evacuation orders very seriously.
