All flights come and go from La Ceiba on the north coast of the mainland - there are usually less than three per day. Atlantic Airlines and SOSA Airlines (www.aerolineassosa.com) operate from La Ceiba. Their schedules vary frequently, so check details well in advance.
Ferries for Utila (1hr), including the Utila Princess , leave from La Ceiba; if you want to leave from the neighboring island of Roatán, you must stop at La Ceiba on the way. More private boat owners are now making the trip, and price, frequency and reliability of services are improving. It's certainly something that's long overdue - ask on the island for the latest.
A few golf-cart taxis ply the streets of Utila; they're cheap, regardless of distance. You can usually find one at El Paisano Restaurant (next to Bundu Cafe on East Main St), Bush's Supermarket, or near the pier (ask at Morgan's Travel). Bicycles can be rented at several places in town - look for signs.
Car rental agencies include Lance Bodden Rentals and Rita's Club Car Rental. They call themselves 'car rental' companies, but they really only hire out golf carts and bicycles (although Bodden's hires out ATVs).
