After a relaxing sleep-in I feel like a spot of ancient culture so it's off to the museum of prehistoric Thira in Firá town where I admire the fantastic Minoan-era frescoes from Ancient Akrotiri. I'll see the site itself tomorrow, but it's a sunny day, so the black sand beach at Perissa beckons. Although first I'll pick up some designer beachwear from one of Firá's posh boutiques, including some sandals, for that dark sand heats up pretty quick! Then to a seaside taberna for a spot of lunch, picking a crisp Santorini white to wash it down with. A lazy boat trip seems in order for the afternoon, giving me a chance to appreciate the caldera from sea level. Then it's off to Oia to wander its narrow whitewashed lanes and browse the novels at the Atlantis bookshop. Everyone comes here for the romantic sunset, but I prefer to avoid the crowds and head down to Ammoudi, the port below town, where I have an ouzo and a yarn at one of the excellent fish tabernas here while watching the sun plunge into the Aegean. Then a leisurely dinner somewhere in Firá - perhaps the friendly Naoussa - beckons, and a drink at one of the busy bars and clubs. Then it's the Casablanca for me for music and ambience.
