Bavaria: Getting there & around

Getting There

Bavaria is well-serviced for transport, thanks to Munich's airport, which is second in importance only to Frankfurt-am-Main for international and national connections. Flights will take you to all major destinations worldwide. There is also an extensive long-distance bus system. Autobahns radiate from Munich out on all sides, so travelling by car or motorcycle through Bavaria is flexible and easy. Train services are also excellent, with rapid connections at least every two hours to all major cities in Germany.

Getting Around

You can get from Munich's airport via a high-speed rail service or an airport bus. A taxi is by far your most overpriced option.

Renting bikes is always an option for getting around, as is driving (but be aware that many of Munich's city streets are pedestrian only). The public transport networks are excellent, combining buses, trains and trams. Taxis can be expensive and not much more convenient than public transport.
