In restaurants, smarter cafes and teashops you're expected to leave a tip of around 10%, unless the service was unsatisfactory. (It might have already been added to your bill but you still don't have to pay if the food or service was bad.) Tip taxi drivers around 10% or round the fare up to the nearest pound. Toilet attendants may get tipped around £0.50 or just some pocket change. Give hotel porters anywhere between £1.00 and £5.00 depending on how many bags you have.
In pubs, tips are not expected if you're only ordering a couple of drinks, however if you've bought numerous drinks over the evening, it is appreciated to offer the bartender 'one for yourself' which just means that they take an appropriate amount for themselves from the money given for the drinks.
