Thanks to its high altitude, the climate is pleasant year-round. While the dry season (June through September) is certainly drier than the wet season (when it continually buckets down), it's advisable to have an umbrella handy any time.

Baños is a great place to enjoy a festival. Along with large national celebrations such as Carnaval (February/March), Easter, Christmas and New Year, the city also has ocal festivals. During the entire month of October, there are processions and fireworks when the various barrios (neighborhoods) take turns paying homage to the local icon, Nuestra Señora de Agua Santa. An annual fiesta is then held on December 16 to celebrate the anniversary of Baños becoming the seat of its canton (territorial division) in 1944. Look forward to processions, fireworks, music and a great deal of street dancing and drinking.

Remember that tourist high seasons coincide with European, North American and Ecuadorian vacation periods (roughly mid-December through January and June through August). During these times (and particularly during local festivals), accommodation rates are highest and reservations are advised. Also, note that businesses and services close on major public holidays and transport is crowded.

Weather

At an elevation of 1800m (5906ft), the climate is pleasant year-round with temperatures averaging a cool 7°C (45°F) at night and a comfortable 22°C (72°F) during the day. The dry season is technically June through September, but keep your umbrella handy at all times. The wet season is more often torrential than not.
