Introducing Martha’s Vineyard

Martha’s Vineyard is a world unto itself. Home to 5000 year-round residents, its population swells tenfold in summer. The island celebrates a rich diversity of landscapes and people. Rural Aquinnah is home to Wampanoag Indians and Oak Bluffs is a favored summer home for wealthy African Americans. The Vineyard is New England’s largest island, so you’ll need wheels to get around, but you can readily explore by bike or bus.

Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce (508-693-0085; www.mvy.com; Beach Rd, Vineyard Haven; 9am-5pm Mon-Fri & 9am-4pm Sat) has visitor information. There are also summertime visitor information kiosks at the ferry terminals.
