Introducing Denver

Where in the country does the city’s mayor also own some of the state’s most popular microbreweries? Well, Denver, of course. Mayor John Hickenlooper was famous for owning Front Range brewpubs long before he got into politics. Denver is the only metropolis in this region and also happens to sit at exactly 5280ft – or 1 mile high (hence its nickname, ‘Mile High City’). The city even boasts its own brand of weird American food. Try the Rocky Mountain Oysters once, but be aware before ordering that these are fried bulls testicles!

Although it’s not the coolest city in the world (we think Boulder is more personal and just as easy to get to from Denver International Airport), Denver is a good place to get your bearings (or recover from jetlag) before exploring the region. Set against a brilliant Rocky Mountain backdrop, Denver effortlessly blends Old West with cosmopolitan hip.
