  14. Bellavista

There are several restaurants in and around the Strahov Monastery, all aimed squarely at overseas visitors. This, however, does boast a terrace with amazing views and is upmarket enough to have served the Rolling Stones and Sean Connery. Hell, even the Italian food gets good reviews.

  15. Bellevue

Book a table on the terrace of this formal establishment and enjoy fabulous views of the river and castle, while tucking into gourmet cuisine. Revamped in 2006, Bellevue now offers a Eurasian range of dishes from roasted veal loin in black truffle sauce to infused black cod on wasabi mash. The service, however, doesn't seem 100-percent revamped, so don't come on an evening when the odd blip might upset you.

  16. Bodeguita Del Medio

A pleasant surprise. Not far from the Old Town Sq and accepting euros, this outreach of the famous Havana establishment doesn't look that promising. But once ensconced at a chunky wooden table in the deliberately graffitied front room (or out the back or downstairs), diners will find the food good and zingy. Try the Creole bouillabaisse, gambas Punta Arenas (prawns with chilli, lime and ginger) or just a classic mojito cocktail.

  18. Bohemia Bagel - Staré Město

When there were fewer choices in Prague, this expat establishment was more interesting. It still has its dedicated fans, who swear by the bagels, sandwiches, grills, American-style breakfasts and atmosphere. But with a more critical eye, the food looks a bit wilted, the toilets are sometimes scruffy and the internet access (2Kč a minute) is fairly pricey.

  24. Cafe Slavia

Once-famous literary cafe, where performers and patrons of the National Theatre would gather to chat over coffee. It's a classy place with great views over the river, though the salads and chicken and chips-style dishes are uninspiring. Sit back with a seksint (the house cocktail of Bohemian champagne and absinthe) and enjoy the atmosphere.
