Chiang Mai has arguably the best assortment of restaurants of any city in Thailand outside of Bangkok. Its guesthouses, however, serve a typical menu of Western food with a few pseudo-Thai dishes. If you're interested in authentic Thai cuisine, you'll do well to leave the guesthouse behind and head to places frequented by Thais.
