As usual, carrying a bit of cash never goes astray but the average traveller should have no problems geting by with plastic in Denmark. Credit cards are widely accepted and most banks have ATMs, although some shut down roughly between and .
Notes come in denominations of 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 kroner.
The krone is divided into 100 øre. Coins come in amounts of 25 øre, 50 øre, one krone, two kroner, five kroner, 10 kroner and 20 kroner.
All common travellers cheques are accepted at major banks in Denmark, but bank fees for changing money are hefty so it's best to change a fair swag at a time. Post offices will change foreign cash and they are open on Saturday mornings, which can be handy. Most major banks have ATMs which give cash advances on credit cards. There are also 24-hour cash exchange machines in Copenhagen.
Credit cards such as Visa and MasterCard (also known as Access or Euro-card) are widely accepted in Denmark, although don't expect to use anything other than a Danish domestic card at supermarkets. American Express and Diners Club are also accepted, but not as often.

Restaurant bills and taxi fares include service charges in the quoted prices. Further tipping is unnecessary, although rounding up the bill is not uncommon when the service has been particularly good.
