Salvador's high season runs from December to March. This is when the city fills with foreign visitors - it peaks during Carnaval (usually held in February). Prices rise during this time and you'll face more crowds, but it is the most festive and fun time of year.

Salvador's low season corresponds to its winter, running from May to September. With the exception of July, which is a school-holiday month, this is the cheapest and least crowded time to visit. You needn't worry about it getting too cold - daytime winter averages remain well above 20°C (68°F).

Weather

Temperatures in Salvador are a bit warmer year-round than in Rio - rarely far from 28°C (82°F) - but due to a wonderful tropical breeze and less humidity, it's not stifling. The rainy season runs from about mid-April to mid-July, but even then you'll encounter gorgeous days.
